Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), the first ERC-20 token backed one to one with Bitcoin ($BTC), is launching today, Jan. 30, 2019. The token claims to bring the Bitcoin market's liquidity to Ethereum ($ETH) while bringing over Ethereum contracts to Bitcoin and standardizing institutional node setups. WBTC believes traders will benefit from the liquidity, institutions from standardization across the two largest cryptocurrencies, and decentralized apps (dApps) from the liquidity and smart contract interoperability.
