The oracle problem at its core is a question of how you access data on a network with the lowest amount of reliance on third parties. The Ethereum network doesn’t know what the weather was like last week in London and it doesn’t know who won the basketball game last night, so how can protocols on Ethereum get that data? Oracles. While it sounds simple enough the complexity of trust models and reputation systems that go into building a safe and efficient oracle have been puzzling developers for years.
