On Open Algorithms and Dismantling Data Monopolies

Most algorithms today are closed source. Amazon. Google. Netflix. Name a company or service and their algorithms are likely proprietary. But what if they weren't? What if the algorithms that govern our lives were controlled by consumers and users? This thesis, that investing in open algorithms may realign incentives between humanity and artificial intelligence, holds two underlying components: open data and open algorithms.
