In the latest Messari podcast, Nic Carter talks about crypto data quality and integrity. Specifically, in light of unreliable exchange data, what metrics should be considered instead? With regards to exchange data, one way to demystify it is by looking at fiat pairs (i.e to consider liquidity profile of an asset). With regards to on-chain data, the major challenge for data providers is to filter out nonsense and figure out the substantive metrics. Also, some factors to consider when analyzing on chain transaction: unique active addresses, median transaction value, transfers v. transaction, etc. Moving forward, investors should be vigilant when it comes to trusting data providers – try and verify data yourself if possible, and be suspicious of the incentives that may lead to the publication of subpar data.
