From Q4 2023 to Q1 2024, Solana experienced a significant increase in memecoin activity, with over 150,000 new tokens launched on various platforms, the majority on Solana, leading to scalability concerns due to heightened onchain activity. As a solution, Solana introduced a staked weighted Quality of Service (swQoS), which incentivizes applications to accumulate SOL to secure better user experiences, though it raises potential centralization issues and dependence on network configurations.
