May 6, 2020 ⋅  1 min read

Today the Libra Association announced Stuart Levey as its first CEO. Levey is currently chief legal officer of HSBC, one of the world’s largest financial institutions. Prior to joining HSBC, Levey served as the first Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence during the Bush and Obama Administrations.

Why it matters:

  • After announcing its revamped plan in April, the Libra project is kicking off into higher gear ahead of its planned late 2020 launch.
  • The CEO choice is a display of the emphasis Libra will look to put on regulatory compliance.
