Heiko Maas, Minister for Foreign Affairs in Angela Merkel's cabinet, is calling for a European SWIFT competitor and monetary fund to curtail U.S. global financial power. Mr. Maas is critical of the Trump Administration's decision to back out of the Iran deal and reimpose economic sanctions, as well as its trade policies. European companies that continue to do business with Iran following the sanctions deadline risk being cut off from the global payment networks.
