🚫 BitPay KYC prevents Chess.com from accepting bitcoin payments

Popular social chess platform Chess.com had to disable bitcoin payment options due to know-your-customer (KYC) compliance issues. The website's CEO Erik Allebest went on Reddit to address a large amount of customer complaints from unsuccessful bitcoin payment attempts using BitPay. Allebest refereed to the process as "a frustrating amount of bureaucracy" and expressed a hope that compliance frustrations "get resolved one day".
