🏦 Banking regulator introduces national license for fintech companies

Following recommendations released Tuesday by the Treasury Department, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is allowing fintech companies to apply for special national charters. These banking licenses would allow companies who qualify to offer some bank services, including payments and loans. The charters were strongly opposed by state-level banking groups. Several cryptocurrency companies are reportedly exploring the option.
