Renzo Protocol: Three-Part Update

Get Caught Up

Balancer V2 Exploit Fallout and ezETH Freeze Proposal. On November 3, 2025, an exploit targeting Balancer V2 StableSwap pools affected ezETH liquidity, with approximately 789.7322 ezETH stolen across pools on the Ethereum network — including roughly $566,000 drained from the ezETH/weETH/rswETH pool and $4.82 million from the ezETH/WETH pool 1. Renzo co-founder Luke Kozinsko confirmed the protocol has no dependencies on Balancer V2 and was unaffected at the contract level, though roughly 720 ezETH had been supplied as liquidity by users 2. A governance discussion has since opened to temporarily freeze the stolen ezETH to prevent further unauthorized transfers and support recovery, with legitimate wallets to be reinstated through a governance-approved process after a forensic audit 1.
October 2025 Buyback and Burn Progress. Renzo's governance-led buyback and burn proposal was approved, with the Foundation reclaiming over 1% of the REZ token supply and splitting the initiative into RP-6(A) and RP-6(B) — a 10% REZ buyback within six months, with 90% of repurchased tokens to be burnt and 10% distributed to ezREZ stakers 3. As of the report, 123,973,369 REZ had been repurchased into a multisig address, funded by directing 75–100% of protocol revenue toward the program 3. This matters because it directly reduces REZ supply and aligns protocol revenue with long-term holder value 4.
Launch of ezBTC. Renzo launched ezBTC, described as the first real yield product on EigenLayer powered by restaking, in collaboration with WBTC, Canary, EigenLayer, and LayerZero 3. The product introduces a vault representing shares in Bitcoin security on EigenLayer and secures a DVN-AVS (Decentralized Verifier Network – Actively Validated Service) by Canary for cross-chain WBTC transfers 3. This expands Renzo's restaking model beyond ETH-denominated assets into Bitcoin, broadening its addressable market 4.

Biggest Stories of 2025

  • Increase Renzo Governance Snapshot Quorum Threshold (RP-7): The community passed a proposal raising the Snapshot quorum threshold from 20,000,000 REZ to 100,000,000 REZ, now representing roughly 2.21% of circulating supply, to reflect the protocol's current scale and token distribution. (December 8, 2025) 5
  • Proposal to Freeze Stolen ezETH from the Balancer V2 Exploit: A governance discussion opened to freeze approximately 789.7322 ezETH stolen in the November 3 Balancer V2 StableSwap exploit, pending a forensic audit and coordination with security and legal teams. (November 5, 2025) 1
  • Renzo Protocol Statement Regarding Balancer Exploit: Co-founder Luke Kozinsko confirmed Renzo has no dependencies on Balancer V2 and was unaffected by the exploit, while noting roughly 720 ezETH had been supplied as liquidity by users. (November 3, 2025) 2
  • October 2025 Month in Review: Renzo reported TVL declining 2.65% to approximately 332,974 ETH, ezETH APY closing at 2.77%, the approval of the buyback and burn proposal, and the launch of ezBTC. (November 3–4, 2025) 436
  • Restaking Auctions (ezAuctions): Renzo introduced a weekly auction mechanism to convert non-ETH EigenLayer AVS rewards into ETH, reducing slippage and auto-compounding rewards back into ezETH positions. (August 14, 2025) 78
  • Concrete Partnership and Flow Vaults: Renzo partnered with Concrete to launch Institutional Restaking Vaults, with Flow Vaults as the first product — simplifying the process for institutions to launch a liquid restaking token with configurable assets, operators, revenue splits, and KYC/AML compliance options. (June 19, 2025) 910
  • Dynamo DEX: Renzo introduced a decentralized exchange built on Uniswap v4, with support from the Uniswap Foundation, featuring a dynamic fee mechanism designed to enhance liquidity and peg stability for ezETH. (June 9, 2025) 11
  • New Strategic Incentives for Renzo (RP 4): The community passed a proposal sunsetting the ezPoints and referral programs after the Season 4 snapshot, replacing them with a Strategic Incentive Program allocating REZ directly to selected liquidity pools. (April 14, 2025) 1213
  • Native ezETH Minting on Arbitrum: Renzo enabled users to natively mint ezETH on Arbitrum using ETH, WETH, and wstETH. (March 27, 2025) 14
  • ezETH on Base: ezETH went live on Base, expanding the token's availability to a new network. (March 20, 2025) 15
  • REZ on Base: REZ became available on Base via a Hyperlane integration. (March 19, 2025) 16
  • Recovery of 7,912.31 ezETH Locked in Contract Address: A proposal passed with 99.99% of votes in favor to recover 7,912.31 ezETH a user accidentally sent to a contract address without a withdrawal function. (March 17, 2025) 1718
  • SparkLend Ethereum – Onboard ezETH (Poll 1205): Voting began on a poll to onboard ezETH as a collateral asset on SparkLend Ethereum with initial risk parameters of 72% LTV, 73% liquidation threshold, and a 2,000 supply cap. (March 10, 2025) 19
