Phantom Staked SOL (PSOL) — Project Update

Get Caught Up

Solana's near-miss with a finality halt (August 2026). On August 12, 2026, a routing fault at Teraswitch's Miami data center caused roughly 28.83% of staked SOL to go delinquent — meaning those validators stopped participating in consensus — bringing Solana within about 4.5 percentage points of the 33.34% threshold at which block finalization would stop 123. The disruption affected about 90 validators across Europe and Asia-Pacific for roughly 33 minutes, with traffic largely recovering by 04:16:15 UTC, and affected validators lost 333 SOL in rewards that Marinade said it would cover through its validator bond process 24. This matters because it exposed the risk of infrastructure concentration: a single operator (ASN AS20326) held 27.34% of total staked SOL at the outage peak, above Solana's 25% safety guideline, and 94% of that stake went dark simultaneously 14. Marinade has said it will tighten concentration checks per autonomous system and data center and assess hot-swap or automatic failover usage 24.
Solana tokenomics governance votes (August 2026). Solana validators advanced two linked governance proposals — SIMD-0550 and SIMD-0553 (also referenced as SGP-0002 and SGP-0003) — that would reshape SOL's supply dynamics 567. SIMD-0550 would double the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, moving the 1.5% terminal inflation floor forward from 2032 to roughly 2029 and removing about 18.9 million SOL of future emissions 687. SIMD-0553 would introduce resource-based transaction fees, raising daily SOL burns from about 650 SOL to between 7,500 and 9,000 SOL at the terminal rate 987. These changes matter because they address both ends of Solana's supply equation — reducing issuance while increasing destruction — though SOL would remain net non-deflationary given ongoing issuance of roughly 60,000 SOL per day 69.
Phantom's Google Pay integration (August 2026). The Phantom team announced that Google Pay is now available in Phantom, allowing users to fund their accounts with CASH directly through the wallet 10. This matters because it lowers the friction of onboarding new users into the Phantom ecosystem, connecting a mainstream payment method to the wallet's self-custody infrastructure and its broader consumer-finance ambitions 1011.

Biggest Stories of 2025

  • Phantom Prediction Markets went live for all eligible users, following the December 12 rollout of markets powered by Kalshi that let users trade binary Yes/No positions on real-world events directly inside the wallet without a separate account. This expanded Phantom beyond trading into event-based markets. (December 22, 2025) 121314
  • Phantom introduced Phantom Connect, an SDK that simplifies user onboarding by letting developers authenticate users via Google or Apple and automatically create embedded wallets, while also supporting existing Phantom extension wallets. It launched with Solana support and additional chains planned. (December 16, 2025) 15
  • Phantom Terminal entered beta, a browser-based trading platform bringing a pro-style interface to desktop with synced positions across devices, real-time charts, and support for spot and perp markets. This marked Phantom's push toward more advanced traders. (November 18, 2025) 16
  • Phantom raised a $150 million Series C round, co-led by Sequoia Capital and Paradigm at a $3 billion valuation, to accelerate its transition from a dominant wallet into a broader consumer finance platform. At the time, Phantom reported 15 million monthly active users and $25 billion in self-custody assets. (January 2025) 11
  • Phantom acquired Solsniper, a trading and analytics platform offering tools for monitoring wallet activity, tracking token launches, and reacting to price movement instantly. The acquisition aimed to combine Solsniper's features with Phantom's infrastructure to serve advanced traders. (August 3, 2025) 17
  • Phantom Perps was introduced, adding support for perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid within the Phantom app, with users able to fund perp balances with SOL that is automatically converted to USDC. The feature supported over 100 markets with up to 40x leverage. (July 8, 2025) 18
  • Phantom Staked SOL (PSOL) launched, an LST (liquid staking token) representing SOL deposited into the Phantom stake pool. PSOL leverages the Solana stake pool and offers MEV-boosted rewards, and users can mint it directly within the Phantom app. (May 14, 2025) 19
  • Phantom introduced gasless swaps, allowing users to pay for gas using swapped tokens rather than SOL. This reduced the need to hold SOL separately for transaction fees. (May 1, 2025) 20
