Mantle Network Update

Get Caught Up

Mantle's 2025 RWA Pivot and Ecosystem Growth Mantle transformed into a full-stack on-chain financial ecosystem in 2025, with a strategic pivot toward Real-World Assets (RWAs) — tokenized representations of traditional assets like equities and treasuries — that positioned the network as a distribution layer for traditional finance 1. The ecosystem reached a Treasury peak above $7.9 billion, total value locked (TVL) surpassing $2.2 billion, and a global community exceeding 1 million members 1. This matters because it signals Mantle's evolution beyond a pure scaling solution into an execution and settlement layer for compliant, high-volume RWA activity 1.
Infrastructure Upgrades: ZK Validity Rollup and EigenLayer Integration Mantle became the first and largest Layer-2 to partner with EigenLayer and the first OP Stack L2 to launch as a ZK Validity Rollup via Succinct Labs 1. The OP Succinct mainnet upgrade transitioned the network from an Optimistic rollup to a ZK validity Layer 2, introducing ZK proofs for state validation and reducing the canonical bridge withdrawal finalization period from 7 days to 12 hours 2. This matters because ZK proofs provide cryptographic state validation, removing the need for the week-long fraud-proof challenge period that previously delayed withdrawals 2.
Deep Bybit Integration and USDT0 Migration Deep integration with the Bybit ecosystem began on August 5, 2025, turning MNT into a CeFi-native asset and securing key advisors Helen Liu and Emily Bao 1. Following the deployment of USDT0 on Mantle, the team confirmed plans to phase out the previous canonical USDT (now labeled USDT Bridged) and establish USDT0 as the network's primary USDT-based stablecoin, with Bybit enabling USDT0 support on December 3, 2025 3. This matters because it strengthens Mantle's native stablecoin layer for RWA settlement and consolidates liquidity around a single primary stablecoin standard 43.

Mantle Network FAQs

What is Mantle Network?

Mantle Network is a Layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, designed to increase transaction speed and reduce costs. Layer-2 solutions work by processing transactions off the main Ethereum blockchain (Layer-1) and then batching them for final settlement on Ethereum. This is done using a method called "Optimistic Rollups," which allows transactions to be executed efficiently off-chain.

Key aspects of Mantle Network involve its modular architecture, where different components handle specific functions. The transaction execution layer is compatible with Ethereum's Virtual Machine (EVM), meaning it can run existing Ethereum smart contracts and dApps (decentralized applications) without modifications. Consensus and settlement are anchored to Ethereum's main network for security, ensuring that the system inherits Ethereum's robust security framework.

The network also integrates with EigenDA, a decentralized data availability layer, enhancing scalability and security by ensuring transaction data is reliably available. Additionally, Mantle Network uses its native token, MNT, as a means to pay transaction fees and participate in decision-making within its community-governed structure, similar to a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).

What is the history of Mantle Network?

Mantle Network, a Layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum, was initiated in June 2022 as a BitDAO-sponsored project. Its initial testnet went live in January 2023, and the protocol was formalized with significant developments, including a BitDAO merger and the rebranding of its various components under the Mantle brand in May 2023. The network was co-founded by Jordi Alexander and Arjun Krishan Kalsy, who aimed to create a modular solution to enhance Ethereum's smart contract capabilities. Through its development, Mantle Network has incorporated innovative mechanisms like optimistic rollups, fraud proofs, and a decentralized data protocol to improve scalability and usability. The network has a strong backing from prominent investors including Peter Thiel and Pantera Capital. These strategic initiatives have positioned Mantle as a competitive force in the Layer-2 Ethereum landscape.

Can I stake Mantle Network to earn rewards?

Yes, you can stake tokens in the Mantle Network project. Here's a breakdown of what you can stake and how it works:

  • ETH Staking with Mantle LSP: You can stake ETH using the Mantle Liquid Staking Protocol (LSP). When you stake ETH, you receive mETH, a value-accumulating receipt token that represents your claim to both the initially staked ETH and any rewards earned based on Ethereum's Proof of Stake network.

  • Earnings on mETH: By holding mETH, you can earn a sustainable yield, initially set at approximately 4.0% APY. This yield is generated through Ethereum's validation network. Token holders can also access additional benefits, such as eligibility for rewards from Mantle's ecosystem and potentially earning EigenLayer points, which can be converted into EIGEN tokens.

  • USD-Stablecoin Yield (mUSD): Mantle has partnered with Ondo Finance to provide a yield-bearing stablecoin, mUSD, which is a rebasing wrapped version of USDY, fully backed by U.S. Treasuries and bank demand deposits. This offers an estimated 5.1% APY yield.

The system is designed to allow easy unstaking of mETH, helping stakers to retrieve their ETH plus accumulated rewards seamlessly [source: Mantle Network].

Has Mantle Network experienced any hacks, exploits or outages?

There have been no reports of any significant hacks, exploits, or outages directly affecting the Mantle Network native protocol where a substantial amount of money was lost. Recent searches show no events of this nature impacting the core network itself. Note that while there have been significant exploits (like the notable hack on the Bybit exchange affecting affiliated tokens), these did not involve a direct compromise of the Mantle Network's native protocol security.

Is Mantle Network safe? How is it secured?

The Mantle Network implements several security measures to ensure the safety and robustness of its infrastructure. Here's a comprehensive look at the security features unique to the Mantle Network, as well as potential vulnerabilities:

Security Measures
  1. Modular Architecture: Mantle utilizes a modular design that splits transaction execution, consensus, and data availability. This architecture enhances scalability and security.

  2. EigenDA Integration: As a unique feature, Mantle uses EigenLayer's EigenDA for decentralized data availability. This approach boosts security by spreading data across a wider network of validators, increasing censorship resistance and resilience.

  3. Safe Multisig Wallets: Mantle implements multisignature wallets under the brand "Mantle Safe". This technique bolsters security by requiring multiple authorized signatures to approve transactions, protecting against unauthorized access and fraud.

  4. Optimistic and ZK Rollups: Mantle leverages optimistic rollups with an eye to transitioning into ZK (zero-knowledge) validity rollups, which enhance transaction speed and security by ensuring validity proofs for state transitions without revealing data.

  5. Fraud-Proof System: An interactive fraud-proof system is in the works, intended to verify the validity of transactions via challenges and defenses to prevent fraudulent activity on the network.

  6. Collaborations: Partners like Chainlink provide tamper-proof external data feeds that enhance transparency and verification processes on the Mantle Network.

  7. Community and Protocol-Level Security: The network has collaborated with BlockSec to enhance protocol-level security. This step includes issuing warnings about phishing and building a secure environment for users and developers.

Vulnerabilities
  1. Centralized Sequencer: The transaction sequencer, responsible for ordering transactions, is currently operated by the core team, which centralizes part of the network's operations.

  2. No Slashing Penalties: As part of EigenLayer's services, there are no slashing penalties, which could attract risk-averse capital but might also limit punitive measures for bad practices or outages.

  3. Delayed Integration of Fraud-Proof Models: Although under development, there is no verified release date for the interactive fraud-proof system, leaving a potential security gap.

Mantle Network's approach leverages cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships to address security while maintaining scalability and efficiency. However, aspects like centralized sequencer management and reliance on yet-to-be-released technology highlight areas for potential risk and future development.

Has Mantle Network been audited?

Mantle Network Profile

Originally proposed as a BitDAO-sponsored Layer-2 project in June 2022, Mantle Network’s Testnet went live in January 2023. The protocol was founded by Jordi Alexander and Arjun Krishan Kalsy, who sought to create a modular solution that would scale Ethereum smart contract capabilities. In May 2023, BitDAO’s BIP-21 was passed, resulting in BitDAO rebranding to Mantle, and the token migration of ERC-20 BIT to ERC-20 MNT. Following this, Mantle Network unveiled its mainnet alpha in July 2023. Of note, as of March 21, 2024, 9.86 billion ERC-20 BIT (~98.64% of the maximum supply) has been sent to the nominated burn address.

Mantle Network has deployed additional protocol features since its mainnet launch. The Mantle Network Bridge was launched on July 15, 2023. The following month, Mantle Journey was launched on Aug. 29, 2023. The network’s Multi-sig feature was launched on Sept. 8, 2023, with MigratorV2 launching on Sept. 18, 2023, in line with plans detailed in MIP-27. In November 2023, Mantle Liquid Staking Protocol’s (LSP) Alpha launched, allowing users to stake native ETH for mETH on Ethereum. On March 15, 2024, Mantle Network’s Tectonic (V2) upgrade was completed, components of which included introducing EIP-1559 support, removing Threshold Signature Scheme (TSS) nodes, and a fixed-block schedule with a block generated every two seconds. Additionally, following the Mantle V2 Tectonic upgrade, MNT became the native token of Mantle, whereas the token was previously “a bridged version of its Ethereum ERC-20 counterpart.”

The Mantle Network sequencer, responsible for collecting and ordering users’ transactions, is centralized and operated by the core team. On Feb. 21, 2024, the project team published a blog post detailing an intended fair sequencer architecture accomplished via verifiable randomness functions. As of March 21, 2024, a commercially reasonable search found no disclosures from the Mantle team regarding an intended launch date for such a sequencer.

Additionally, Mantle Network is in the process of developing an interactive fraud-proof system. The fraud-proof model that Mantle Network plans to employ is similar to the one deployed by Specular Network. This system involves multiple parties: a challenger, who claims a fraudulent assertion, and a defender, who supports the said assertion. The system is designed to narrow down the assertion to a single state transition, which is then verified for its validity. Based on a commercially reasonable search, no verifiable release date for this mechanism could be found.

The protocol intends to use Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-level instructions for compiling and verifying fraud proofs. This choice aims to allow all Ethereum clients to interact with a common proof system without requiring permission. It is also designed to reduce trust assumptions among network actors, including verifiers, clients, and compilers.

A full list of potential upgrades to Mantle Network can be seen on the Mantle Network roadmap under “Potential Implement.”

In September 2025, Mantle announced that it will upgrade its mainnet to OP Succinct, transitioning the network from an Optimistic rollup to a ZK validity Layer 2. The upgrade introduces ZK proofs for state validation and significantly changes the canonical bridge withdrawal process.

In October 2025, UR has announced that it has fully launched its unified crypto and fiat account platform to users in over 45 countries, with transactions tokenized and settled on the Mantle Network for on-chain transparency.

In November 2025, in collaboration with Backed, the Mantle team has announced that tokenized equities are coming to its network through xStocks.
