Biggest Stories of 2025

  • DigiByte Core v8.26.1 released (Oct. 27, 2025): This software update added full Taproot activation support for the DigiByte mainnet, along with V2 transport tests, Qt theme improvements, macOS build fixes, and translation updates replacing legacy "Bitcoin" references with "DigiByte." It remains the most recent core client release and reflects continued maintenance of the network's node software. (October 27, 2025) 1
  • DigiDollar whitepaper introduced (June 6, 2025): DigiByte proposed DigiDollar, a USD-pegged stablecoin designed to operate natively on the DigiByte blockchain. The design would let users lock DGB as collateral to mint a stablecoin intended to hold a 1:1 value with the US dollar, using a decentralized oracle system for pricing and requiring consensus-level changes deployable via a network upgrade. The proposal remains pending and signals a potential expansion of DigiByte's utility beyond payments. (June 6, 2025) 2
  • Taproot soft fork activated (Apr. 7, 2025): The Taproot upgrade went live on the DigiByte mainnet after reaching the required miner support. Taproot is a protocol upgrade that introduces a standard for Schnorr signatures, enabling more efficient and private transactions as well as potential use cases such as signature aggregation. This was the year's most significant protocol change for the network. (April 7, 2025) 34
  • Taproot locked in (Mar. 24, 2025): The Taproot soft fork reached "locked in" status after 70% of miners signaled support, with an activation height of 21,168,000 estimated to arrive on April 7, 2025. This milestone confirmed sufficient network consensus to proceed with the upgrade. (March 24, 2025) 5
  • DigiByte Core v8.22.2 released (Mar. 27, 2025): This release resolved a fee estimation issue affecting the sendmany function, re-enabled the default fallback transaction fee, and updated the DNS seed from seed.digibyte.help to seed.diginode.tools. Node operators were encouraged to upgrade from v8.22.1. (March 27, 2025) 6
  • DigiByte Core v8.22.1 released (Feb. 3, 2025): This update addressed memory-related issues, including a memory alignment bug and a memory access issue affecting legacy and testnet blocks, and resolved a crash bug tied to HD wallet imports. It also added new checkpoints and assumevalid entries to blockchain verification. (February 3, 2025) 7
  • DigiByte Core v8.22.0-Final released (Jan. 15, 2025): This release introduced the Taproot activation soft fork to mainnet and removed the rc5 image while addressing a Boost build dependency issue. It set the stage for the network's Taproot activation later in the year. (January 15, 2025) 8
  • Miners advised to upgrade for Taproot signaling (Jan. 15, 2025): DigiByte miners were advised to upgrade their nodes to DigiByte Core v8.22.0-Final to signal support for the Taproot activation soft fork on mainnet. This marked the beginning of the network's coordinated push toward the upgrade. (January 15, 2025) 4

DigiByte Profile

DigiByte is an open-source blockchain based on Bitcoin that was developed in 2013 and released in 2014. DigiByte differs from Bitcoin in its confirmation speeds and protocol parameters that its creator, Jared Tate, deemed better for network decentralization and transaction security. The DigiByte blockchain was the second major blockchain to implement Segregated Witness via a soft work in April 2017. The first Digibyte gensis block was mined on January 10, 2014, and included the headline from USA Today: “Target: Data stolen from up to 110M customers," underscoring its motivation for digital security.
